Bratislava, 24 February (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini met representatives of the Slovak Women's Union at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday to discuss what troubles women in Slovakia, where they can see improvements and where problems still persist, as well as how they view potential solutions, TASR reported on the same day.
"I'll convey the ideas voiced at the palace today to ministers and the government so that they can make the most of the coming period to improve the lives of our women," stated Pellegrini.
He pointed out that women had to fight for their status and rights for a long time, and now they carry out roles that were previously unthinkable, including those requiring physical strength.
"In addition to being able to perform any post on an equal footing with men, with everything they have to do in their jobs and in their demanding professional posts, women also have to manage difficult responsibilities at home, which we perhaps don't give them enough credit for," said the head of state.
Pellegrini doesn't want generational solidarity to disappear completely from Slovak society, and he said that he'll do his best to ease tensions "at all possible levels" so that society isn't divided by political views or age.
"If young people spend time with our seniors, it will be an enriching experience for them, because your generation has gone through so many things that young people can't even imagine," he said.
