Bratislava, 23 February (TASR) - Electricity exports from Slovakia rose by 5 percent year-on-year to 18.319 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2005, with Hungary being the largest importer, receiving 14.741 TWh of electricity, and Ukraine next with 2.955 TWh, TASR reported on Monday based on data published by state-run grid operator SEPS. However, most of the exported electricity only passed through Slovakia, as 15.966 TWh flowed into the country from the Czech Republic and Poland. Slovakia's own exported surplus amounted to only 2.353 TWh, noted SEPS. Last year, Slovakia imported electricity mainly from the Czech Republic (10.493 TWh) and Poland (4.821 TWh). Slovakia maintains energy exchanges involving both imports and exports with every neighbouring state. The net balance with the Czech Republic and Poland stood at 10.006 TWh and 4.685 TWh of imported electricity, respectively, while net exports to Hungary and Ukraine (after subtracting imports) reached 14.342 TWh and 2.701 TWh, respectively. According to SEPS, power plants in Slovakia generated 29.816 TWh of electricity last year, with total consumption rising slightly from 27.373 TWh in 2024 to 27.474 TWh in 2025. jrg/df
