Bratislava, 20 February (TASR) - The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry has strongly warned against travelling to Iran, while Slovak nationals who are currently in the country are advised to leave it urgently, TASR reported on Friday based on information published by the ministry on its website.
"If they are in Iran despite the travel warning, we recommend that Slovak citizens should watch the news and monitor current events and social media, while avoiding places where mass gatherings and protests may take place, especially at night," stated the ministry.
It also warned against photographing members of the security forces, or government and military buildings and other sensitive sites. "In the event of any security escalation, we recommend immediately withdrawing to safety, avoiding unnecessary risks and waiting in accommodation facilities for the situation to calm down," added the ministry.
According to the ministry, the situation in Iran remains very sensitive and problematic following the military conflict in June 2025 and this year's escalation caused by domestic protests. Tension is also increasing due to the actions taken by the USA, with President Donald Trump once again hinting at potential military intervention in the country. According to foreign media, this could happen as early as this weekend. The Slovak government prefers a diplomatic solution to a military one, stated the ministry.
