Fire Breaks Out in Leopoldov Prison, No Injuries Reported

Leopoldov, 20 February (TASR) - Firefighters responded to a fire in a locker room at Leopoldov Prison (Trnava region) on Friday morning, Peter Celiga of the Regional Fire and Rescue Corps (HaZZ) Directorate in Trnava told TASR on the same day, adding that it was a small fire and that the incident didn't result in any injuries. The fire was reported shortly before 9.30 a.m. on Friday. "Firefighters from the stations in Hlohovec, Piestany and Trnava came out to help extinguish the fire," he said, adding that a total of 14 professional firefighters and five volunteer firefighters were at the scene. "We can confirm that a fire was discovered in an internal workplace at Leopoldov Prison, specifically in the locker room for prisoners. The smoke was noticed by staff, and firefighters were called in response," Prison and Judicial Guard Corps (ZVJS) spokesperson Anna Beckova Ragasova has told TASR. She added that work at the facility was temporarily suspended, and that no staff or prisoners were injured. "The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage caused will be the subject of further investigation," said the spokesperson. ko/df
