Blanar: Slovak Opposition Lost in Time and Space in Terms of Foreign Policy

Bratislava, 18 February (TASR) - The Slovak opposition is constantly confirming that it is lost in time and space when it comes to foreign policy, Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) posted on social media on Wednesday, emphasising that, unlike previous governments, Premier Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) cabinet consistently and confidently promotes peaceful solutions everywhere and on principle. The foreign minister stressed that Slovakia has participated in all peace summits related to the war in Ukraine. The same is true in the case of the Gaza Strip, where there is currently only one UN Security Council resolution that, according to Blanar, has a chance of leading to a diplomatic solution. Blanar went on to say that Slovakia hasn't joined US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace as a member, as was decided by the government at the outset, because it doesn't agree with all aspects of it. "That doesn't mean that we won't support this initiative where possible, especially in its peaceful intentions, which has been directly supported by UN resolutions and which is currently the only realistic peaceful solution," wrote Blanar. Representatives of the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party stated at a press conference on Wednesday that the government's foreign policy oriented in all four cardinal directions has not only political but also economic implications. They also criticised Blanar for deciding to attend a meeting of US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace even though he had said that he wouldn't do so. am/df
