Government to Deal with Oversight of NGOs and Legal Representation in NFS Case

Bratislava, 18 February (TASR) - State authorities should make use of all available legal tools to oversee the operation, funding and financial performance of NGOs, according to a proposal by Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) due to be discussed at a regular government session on Wednesday.
The proposal is a reaction to the Constitutional Court's decision, ruling that last year's amendment to the law on NGOs is unconstitutional and void.
Cabinet ministers are also expected to approve a proposal for further procedure in connection with the National Football Stadium (NFS) project. Tourism and Sport Minister Rudolf Huliak (Independent) has proposed that responsibility for court disputes related to the NFS's construction be transferred exclusively to his ministry. This should remove any doubts regarding jurisdiction and powers in connection with the legal representation of the state in court proceedings.
The government will also deal with changes to the statutes of Eurofima, a European company bringing together 25 countries and their national railway companies. This joint-stock company, in which Slovakia is represented through passenger rail carrier ZSSK, focuses on modernisation projects in railway and urban rail transport. Amendments to the statutes require the consent of the government of a member state.
