Huliak: Presov Launches Construction of National Youth Equestrian Centre

Presov/Bratislava, 16 February (TASR) - The construction of the Slovak National Equestrian Training Centre for Children and Youth was ceremonially launched in Presov on Monday in the presence of Tourism and Sport Minister Rudolf Huliak (Independent), Presov mayor Frantisek Olha and representatives of equestrian organisations. The project also includes the comprehensive reconstruction of the original riding hall at the site. According to the city leadership, this is the most significant investment in show-jumping in history. "This was one of the most important stud farms in Austria-Hungary, and the tradition of horse-breeding in Presov dates back to 1859. Even our [Czechoslovak] president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk [1918-35] used horses from this stud farm. So where else but here should a reconstructed national equestrian centre for our children and youth in Slovakia be built," said Huliak, adding that the building still has the potential to serve its purpose. The reconstruction work will include replacing the roof structure, renovating the facade, plinth, drainage pavements, lightning conductors and external lighting, as well as the grandstand and outdoor show-jumping arena. Inside, the surface and irrigation system will be replaced, and new sand will be added. The total cost of the first phase will amount to €1.8 million including VAT, with the majority covered by a €1.5-million contribution from the Sports Support Fund. The remaining investment in the first phase will be financed from the city budget. The project was approved as a two-phase plan by the fund's board, and the city hall is ready to submit another application for €2 million to cover the costs of a judge's stand, new stables and outdoor areas. The construction site was handed over to the contractor, Dag Slovakia, the winner of the public procurement process, on 30 January.
