Bratislava, 15 February (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is doing his best to save Nitra businessman Norbert Bodor and Parliamentary Vice-Chair Tibor Gaspar (Smer-SD), the opposition 'Slovakia' party stated in response to the premier's press conference on Sunday morning. According to MP and ex-justice minister Maria Kolikova (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS), the prime minister is nervous because of the Constitutional Court's decision. "Fico insults and lashes out, and he no longer does so out of conviction. He does it out of fear, because he knows very well that if Bodor falls, if Gaspar falls in court, then Robert Fico will also fall," said MP Roman Mikulec and former interior minister ('Slovakia'-'For the People' caucus) at a press conference on Sunday. MP Veronika Remisova ('Slovakia'-'For the People' caucus) pointed out that the trial of Gaspar and Bodor is approaching and, according to her, the prime minister is becoming increasingly nervous. "Smer is clearly thinking about how to circumvent even the Constitutional Court," she noted. Kolikova pointed out on social media that the Constitutional Court suspended the amendment to the Criminal Code concerning cooperating defendants this week. "This amendment would also help defendant Gaspar in his criminal case, but it would be an obstacle to the fight against the mafia and corruption," she added. Premier Fico told a press conference on Sunday in response to the decision of the Constitutional Court to suspend the effect of the amendment to the Penal Code concerning the inadmissibility of evidence from cooperating defendants that the most appropriate solution would be to amend the Penal Code and completely abolish the institution of the cooperating defendant, describing the institution as unreliable and absolutely unacceptable in its current form. am
