Kosice, 14 February (TASR) - The Volvo Car Kosice team currently comprises of more than 400 employees, with the number increasing every month, Martin Seman of the company told TASR earlier this week, adding that work on the plant near Kosice is progressing at a high speed and is now at the stage of intensive construction.
According to Seman, the silhouette of the future production facilities is already visible on the construction site.
"Recruitment for our plant is taking place in several waves, in line with the progress of construction and the planned start of operations," he said. While in the initial stage the focus was primarily on filling managerial and specialist posts in the field of logistics, quality, IT and technical facilities management, direct recruitment for production has also been underway since last September. "The colleagues who have already assumed their posts are currently intensively involved in setting up internal processes and preparing for the launch of the technologies," he said.
"The main stage of recruiting production employees and operators is planned to take place during the course of this year. "Our aim is to ensure that our new colleagues will have enough time for high-quality training with modern technologies," said Seman, adding that next year, for which the launch of serial production is scheduled, the plant will be fully staffed and ready to operate in line with the plans. "At full capacity, we expect that some 1,500 employees will be working here per shift. Once full capacity is reached, Volvo Car Kosice will create thousands of jobs," he said.
Concerning the construction work itself, Seman said that the skeletons of the key halls have been successfully completed. This primarily includes the pressing plant, mega-casting hall, machining hall, paint shop, body shop, assembly hall and the hall for producing battery components and electric engines.
The company plans to launch trial and pre-serial production in the second half of this year. "This stage will be crucial for precisely fine-tuning the production lines and setting strict quality-control standards," noted Seman, adding that the goal remains to launch serial production of next-generation electric cars in 2027.
The Volvo car plant is being constructed in the Valaliky industrial park near Kosice.
