Kosice, 12 February (TASR) - The opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party doesn't plan to offer its own candidate for the posts of Kosice mayor or Kosice regional governor in the elections due to be held this autumn, SaS leader Branislav Groehling has told TASR, adding that his party is holding negotiations with other opposition parties within the framework of local politics on supporting joint candidates.
According to Groehling, SaS members from Kosice initiated a meeting with all the opposition parties. "We're heading towards a draft declaration or an agreement that we'll support a single candidate," he said. The SaS leader would be pleased if they managed to agree on a joint candidate both for Kosice mayor and the Kosice regional governor post.
Groehling indicated that SaS will only offer its own candidate in the autumn elections if a potential SaS candidate showed to be the strongest in the election polls and it were possible to agree on this person with the other opposition parties.
