House: Session on State of Prosecution of Corruption Set for Wednesday Morning
dnes 15:14
Bratislava, 10 February (TASR) - MPs should deal with the state of the prosecution of corruption in Slovakia at a special House session due to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday (11 February), the Parliament Office's communications department has informed TASR.
The special session on the issue was convened by House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) and initiated by the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party.
At the special session, the opposition wants Parliament to adopt a resolution on the "state of criminal prosecution of corruption in Slovakia and on the serious findings of the prosecutor-general (PG)". SaS has demanded that PG Maros Zilinka should address the session. The opposition MPs decided to take this step after the parliamentary debate on the PG's report on the activities of the prosecution service in 2024 was once again postponed. Parliament was due to debate the report on Friday (6 February), but the item was moved to a subsequent session in line with a coalition proposal. Maria Kolikova (SaS) also recalled that Zilinka described the state of criminal investigations, particularly into corruption, a few days ago.
Zilinka said last week that the rate of prosecution of corruption in Slovakia has fallen significantly, adding that not a single corruption offence was uncovered at the highest levels of the state in 2025. This was one of the topics discussed at last week's meeting between Zilinka and Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD). The premier expressed his disagreement with the opinion of the PG's Office on an assessment of the fight against corruption in a prepared report on the state of the rule of law. The head of the prosecution service also criticised changes in the Penal Code and the reorganisation of the Police Corps.
