URSO: Dynamic Electricity Tariffs for Households to Be Voluntary

dnes 17:24
Bratislava, 9 February (TASR) - Dynamic electricity tariffs, which allow consumption to be shifted to periods with lower prices, were used in Slovakia by approximately 27,000 industrial consumers, businesses and some households last year, but the Office for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO) wants to offer this option - as a voluntary alternative - to all households and small businesses. "We want to make dynamic tariffs available to all consumers, including vulnerable groups, so that they can actively reduce their electricity costs by using electrical appliances when the market price of electricity is lowest," stated URSO head Jozef Holjencik, adding that the aim of this change is to motivate consumers to use energy more efficiently. According to Holjencik, consumers will know a day in advance what the electricity price will be every fifteen minutes on the following day and will be able to adjust their behaviour accordingly. They'll be able to turn on their appliances when the price is at its lowest. "I'd like to emphasise that the current tariff system will remain in place and that dynamic tariffs will only supplement it as a voluntary option," added the URSO chairman. am/df
