Bratislava, 9 February (TASR) – President Peter Pellegrini's foreign agenda for 2026 is based on three main areas, including Europe and the region, security and defence, and modern technological diplomacy, the President's Office has told TASR, emphasising that the head of state's trips will build on the priorities that characterised his foreign visits last year.
The President's Office pointed to Pellegrini's participation and support for Slovak athletes at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. It announced that he'll also attend the subsequent Winter Paralympics.
"One important event will be his working trip to New Delhi, India, where he'll address a global summit on artificial intelligence. During the year, Pellegrini will participate in a Three Seas Initiative summit in Croatia, a Bucharest Nine summit in Romania, a NATO summit in Ankara, the UN General Assembly in New York, and an Arraiolos Group meeting in Slovenia," added the office.
The head of state's programme will also include numerous meetings with compatriots abroad. "Towards the end of the year, the president plans to visit Slovak soldiers serving in international missions. The president will also participate in international forums promoting democracy, human rights and cultural dialogue," it added.
The office pointed out that in 2025 the head of state went on 29 foreign trips, the common goal of which was to strengthen security, support the enlargement of the European Union, develop partnerships and promote Slovakia's active role in the international community. "A significant part of last year's foreign activities consisted of bilateral visits aimed at supporting European integration, stability in the immediate neighbourhood of the European Union and the development of strategic partnerships," it said in connection with several visits to the Western Balkans, as well as trips to Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, France, and Germany.
Among other foreign trips, the President's Office highlighted the strengthening of regional cooperation during visits to the Czech Republic and Poland, the development of bilateral relations and economic cooperation on a visit to Portugal, and an emphasis on the global dimension of Slovak diplomacy during an official visit to Japan.
