Bratislava, 9 February (TASR) – Developments in the construction sector were favourable in 2025, with the volume of completed works exceeding the €8.4 billion mark for the first time on record, the Statistics Office reported on Monday.
After adjusting for inflation, sector output rose by 7 percent year on year in real terms, surpassing figures seen in 2023 and 2024.
The currently published figures are preliminary cumulative results on construction performance compiled from monthly statistical surveys.
The positive outcome in 2025 was driven by growth of up to 5 percent in both of the largest components of domestic production by share. Key new construction, including reconstructions and modernisations, exceeded €5 billion, while repair and maintenance works rose to almost €2 billion.
By type of structure, the dominant building construction segment grew by 3.9 percent year on year, with its value approaching €5 billion. This includes the volume of all works related to the construction or repair of various types of buildings, including housing.
Works on civil engineering structures grew even faster, by 5.6 percent, mainly covering the construction or repair of rail and road infrastructure, including motorways.
The positive result was also supported by more than 27 percent year-on-year growth in works carried out abroad, reaching a record volume just above €1 billion.
