Bratislava, 6 February (TASR) - MPs for the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party have submitted a motion to convene a special House session on the state of investigations into corruption and organised crime, demanding that Prosecutor-General (PG) Maros Zilinka should address the session as well, SaS vice-chair Maria Kolikova told a news conference on Friday. At the same time, SaS MPs called on Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) and Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) to take decisive steps to ensure that the law and the structures of the security forces, in particular the police, serve to protect the public. "We're demanding a special session to be convened so that we can jointly discuss the state of the prosecution of corruption in Slovakia, as well as criminal prosecution concerning the mafia and organised crime in general. We're also requesting that the prosecutor-general should be present to describe the situation in Slovakia," said Kolikova. SaS MPs collected a sufficient number of signatures and submitted the motion to Parliament on Thursday (5 February). The special session must therefore be convened within seven days. The opposition MPs decided to take this step after the parliamentary debate on the PG's report on the activities of the prosecution service in 2024 was once again postponed. Parliament was due to debate the report on Friday, but the item was moved to a subsequent session at the coalition's proposal. Kolikova also recalled that Zilinka described the state of criminal prosecution, particularly into corruption, a few days ago. Zilinka told a news conference on Wednesday (4 February) that the rate of prosecution of corruption in Slovakia has fallen significantly, adding that not a single corruption offence was uncovered at the highest levels of the state in 2025. This was one of the topics discussed at this week's meeting between Zilinka and Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD). The premier expressed his disagreement with the opinion of the PG's Office on an assessment of the fight against corruption in a prepared report on the state of the rule of law. The head of the prosecution service also criticised changes in the Penal Code and the reorganisation of the Police Corps. ko/df
