President Leaves for Milan, Will Attend Opening Ceremony of Winter Olympics

Bratislava, 6 February (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini left for Milan on Friday, where he'll attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the President's Office has informed TASR. The president will join thousands of athletes and invited guests at Milan's San Siro Stadium to watch a programme titled 'Harmony', symbolising the connection between sport, culture and the values of the Olympic movement. Before the official start of the Winter Olympics, Pellegrini will take part in the opening of the Czech Olympic House along with his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel. "By this symbolic gesture, they will emphasise the close relations between the two countries, including in the field of sport diplomacy," said the office. The Slovak head of state will also attend a ceremonial reception at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The programme of the Slovak president continues on Saturday (7 February) with the opening of the Slovak Olympic House – Casa Slovacca, to which the Czech president has also been invited. "The House is located in the prestigious Galleria Meravigli in central Milan. It will serve as a place where the slogan of the Slovak Olympic team, 'We Stick Together', will be symbolically fulfilled during the Games," said the office. Pellegrini is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok in Milan and visit the Slovak ice-hockey team during training. ko/df
