Bratislava, 6 February (TASR) - According to preliminary figures, Slovakia posted a negative trade balance in December 2025 with a deficit amounting to €162.7 million, the Statistics Office reported on Friday, adding that this was an improvement of €580.4 million compared to the same period of the previous year, however.
Slovakia's exports increased by 7 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to €8.2 billion in December. Exports posted y-o-y growth for 11 months of the past year, with the pace in December being the second fastest (following March).
Meanwhile, imports fell by 0.5 percent to €8.4 billion. Imports recorded y-o-y declines in four months of 2025.
The more favourable result can chiefly be ascribed to a y-o-y reduction of the trade deficit in miscellaneous industrial products and mineral fuels, as well as an increase in the surplus in trade in marketable goods.
Nine out of ten export categories showed annual increases. A more than 8 percent drop in the category of miscellaneous industrial products had the most significant impact on the export development. The most significant impact on the overall development came from an almost 5-percent growth in the value of exported goods in the machinery and transport equipment category, which includes car exports.
On the import side, five of the ten categories saw decreases. The biggest impact on the overall import development came from an over 28-percent decline in the category of mineral fuels, which includes oil, electricity and natural gas.
