Court: Accused in Last Year's Knife Attack at School to Remain in Custody

Pezinok, 5 February (TASR) - The Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok (Bratislava region) ruled at a closed session on Thursday that Samuel S. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons], who is accused of last year's attack at a secondary school in the town of Spisska Stara Ves (Presov region) in which two women were killed, should remain in custody even after the charges were pressed, TASR has been told by Maria Horakova from the Specialised Criminal Court.
"A senate of the Specialised Criminal Court decided in a closed session on 5 February to keep the defendant in custody. The decision isn't final because the defendant has filed an appeal against it that will be decided by the Supreme Court," she stated.
The charge of premeditated murder was filed at the end of January by a prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Presov. The file attached to the indictment consists of ten volumes with a total of 3,830 pages and numerous pieces of material evidence. It also contains 16 expert reports in the fields of toxicology, fingerprinting, biology, traces left by implements, other traces left at the scene of a crime, information technology, health care, pharmacy, psychiatry and psychology.
The victims of the knife attack that took place at the grammar school in Spisska Stara Ves on 16 January 2025 were two women aged 18 and 51, a student and the school's deputy headteacher. Another student was injured. The police have charged the suspect, a student then aged 18, with premeditated murder.
