Bratislava, 5 February (TASR) - Two candidates are running for the post of Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) chair, with Katarina Benczova having been nominated by five NSS judges and Petra Pribelska by 14 NSS judges, as well as by judges' councils at the administrative courts in Bratislava, Banska Bystrica and Kosice, TASR reported on Thursday based on information published by the Judicial Council's Office on its website.
On 9 January, Judicial Council head Marcela Kosova announced the election for the post of NSS chair for 14 April, as the term in office of current NSS chairman Pavol Nad will expire on 18 May. Eligible entities were allowed to submit their nominations to Kosova by 2 February.
Before the election of the new NSS chair, the Judicial Council must verify the candidates' property declarations, as well as whether they meet the prerequisites of judicial eligibility. In order to succeed, a candidate must receive a majority of votes from all Judicial Council members.
"The election of the NSS chair is an important power of the Judicial Council, afforded to it directly by the Constitution. I'm convinced that all Judicial Council members will undertake this task with full respect and responsibility," said Kosova.
