Bratislava, 2 February (TASR) - The Slovak Towns Union (UMS) agrees with Ombudsman Robert Dobrovodsky that equality of votes is a fundamental constitutional principle and a key prerequisite for people to trust in local democracy, but the solution to this systemic problem shouldn't be a simplistic labelling of "local government failures," but clear rules and guidelines from the state, said UMS in a statement on Monday.

Podbanske, 2 February (TASR) - The Agriculture Ministry plans to announce the remaining calls under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan in 2026, with a total volume of approximately €900 million, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Richard Takac (Smer-SD) announced on Monday in the village of Podbanske (Zilina region) at a meeting with representatives of farmers and food producers from Trencin region and the town of Nove Zamky (Nitra region), TASR was told by the ministry's communications department.

Bratislava, 2 February (TASR) - The opposition 'Slovakia' party has criticised a project aimed at marginalised Roma communities that is set to receive €17 million from EU funds, stating at a press conference on Monday that it's an inefficient use of money that won't bring about any real improvement in living conditions in Roma settlements and may provoke a negative reaction from Brussels.

Nitra/Bratislava, 2 February (TASR) – The rural Malanta guest house near Nitra shouldn't have received any subsidy from the Agricultural Payment Agency (PPA), said MP Martina Bajo Holeckova of the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party at a press conference in Nitra on Monday, arguing that the basic conditions of the contract for a non-repayable financial contribution were not met.

Bratislava, 2 February (TASR) – The criminal offence of 'bending the law' has no justification in the Slovak legal system, the Prosecutor-General's Office (PG) has said in response to a request by the Judicial Council to remove the offence from the Criminal Code, the PG's spokesperson Zuzana Drobova told TASR on Sunday.
