Police Complete Investigation into Mayor Who Demanded Bribe of €92,500

Durdos/Bratislava, 2 February (TASR) – The police have concluded an investigation into the case of a 42-year-old mayor of a village in Presov region, and an investigator from the anti-corruption unit filed a motion on Monday to press charges against him for the felony of the misuse of power by a public official and accepting a bribe, Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Roman Hajek told TASR on the same day.
"The accused is alleged to have demanded a bribe of €92,500 with respect to the subdivision of land for individual housing construction, which he subsequently accepted in his office," the spokesperson added, noting that several items of evidence were seized during the operation. If found guilty, the man faces a prison sentence of four to ten years.
Officers from the anti-corruption unit carried out the operation, codenamed Construction, on 17 July 2025.
