Cultural Express Train to Offer Concerts and Theatre Performance on Monday

Kosice, 2 February (TASR) - The Ex 624 Tatran express train, serving the Kosice–Bratislava route and departing from Kosice at 4:07 p.m., will offer cultural experiences including concerts, a theatre performance and a light show to its passengers on Monday, national passenger rail carrier ZSSK and the city of Trencin have informed TASR, adding that this will serve as an invitation to the opening ceremony for Trencin's tenure as European Capital of Culture (EHMK) 2026. The aim of the cooperation between ZSSK and the Trencin Creative Institute is to show that public transport can be not only comfortable and environmentally friendly, but also inspiring. The cultural express trains offer a unique experience, with the goal of familiarising as many people as possible with the idea of the European Capital of Culture. The first such cultural journey took place on the Bratislava–Kosice route on Friday (30 January). Monday's train programme includes concerts by the Lethe Quartet and Chiki Liki Tu-a, as well as a theatre performance by Pavol Seris. "The cultural express is another way to reach the whole of Slovakia. We're not only bringing culture onto trains, but also invitations to the unique experience awaiting people in Trencin between 13 and 15 February," said Trencin 2026 project director Stanislav Krajci. In addition to an artistic experience, passengers will also receive a personal invitation to the project's opening weekend. "We view the partnership with the European Capital of Culture project as an exceptional opportunity to combine environmentally friendly transport with a cultural message. We believe that these cultural rail journeys can provide people with a new dimension of travel, connecting regions and fostering interest in culture beyond traditional venues," said director of ZSSK's communications department Jana Pobisova. ko/df
