Vranov nad Toplou, 30 January (TASR) - The police have charged a 35-year-old man with murder, spokeswoman for the regional police in Presov Jana Ligdayova told TASR on Friday, adding that the man allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds on his relatives, who died in the town of Vranov nad Toplou (Presov region) on Wednesday (28 January). The spokesperson noted that a motion has been filed to remand the accused in custody. A regional investigator carried out the necessary procedural steps that made it possible to press charges. "If the man is found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of 20-25 years under the law," said the spokeswoman, adding that this was a serious offence committed against a protected person. A pre-trial judge on Friday decided to remand the accused in custody based on reasonable concerns that he might continue his criminal activities, TASR was told by Ivana Petrufova, spokesperson for the Regional Court in Presov. "The decision of Presov District Court is not final. The regional court will decide on appeals filed against the district court's decision," added the spokeswoman. Three people were found dead in a flat on a housing estate in Vranov nad Toplou on the afternoon of 28 January. According to the police, they were a 65-year-old man, a 61-year-old woman and a 42-year-old woman. am/df
