Brussels, 29 January (TASR) - The critical situation in Ukraine caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure is unacceptable for Slovakia, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) said on Thursday following a meeting of the European Union Council in Brussels, adding that he expressed his protest against Russia in this situation and supported civilians in Ukraine.
The current situation in Ukraine was described to the ministers of EU member states by the country's foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha. "He stated that the situation is currently very critical from a humanitarian point of view, as there are severe frosts and the Russians are targeting energy resources very precisely. [This is causing] huge outages, where people have no chance to heat their homes, turn on the lights, or meet their basic needs," said Blanar.
At the meeting, the Slovak minister pointed out Slovakia's active assistance to Kiev, including increased electricity supplies during January and the provision of power generators, which should already be in Sumy region.
