Bratislava, 28 January (TASR) - The Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava is the best technical university in Slovakia, ranking 388th out of 958 European universities, according to the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026, TASR has learnt from STU spokesperson Juraj Rybansky. Even though last year STU ranked 387th, the list now totals 958 after 291 new universities were added this year. Of the 11 Slovak universities in the ranking, STU ended up second-highest. Rybansky added that STU saw a significant year-on-year improvement in its score, which increased from 19.6 points last year to 30.9 points this year. The ranking evaluates universities based on twelve criteria. "The significantly higher score shows that we are moving in the right direction. However, there's no room for complacency, as we need to keep up with the competition in rankings and the increasing demands of the times. We'll continue working towards improving individual parameters, not only for the sake of our place in the ranking, but also for the quality of education and conditions conducive to productive research and innovation," said STU rector Maximilian Stremy. With nearly 40,000 citations in Scopus, Marian Valko remains STU's most cited scientist. His article "Free radicals and antioxidants in normal physiological functions and human disease," published in the International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, has over 12,000 citations, the highest number ever for an author from Slovakia. jrg/df
