Bratislava, 27 January (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday handed over credentials to Fedor Rosocha, the new head of the Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace.
The head of state expects Rosocha to contribute to Slovakia's involvement in UN reform processes. "You will be part of efforts to advance Slovakia's aim to obtain a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2028 to 2029 and our candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for 2032 to 2034," Pellegrini said in his address.
The president pointed out that the continuing crisis of multilateralism has a fundamental impact on the credibility, operational capacity and budgetary stability of international institutions, led by the UN. According to him, Slovakia has long profiled itself as a constructive, reliable and principled partner on the international stage.
"Therefore, the position you will hold is key both from a global perspective and from the point of view of Slovakia and the fulfilment of its national interests," Pellegrini noted. He added that support for international law and an emphasis on human rights are among the basic priorities Slovakia promotes internationally and which also stem from the government's Manifesto.
