Bratislava, 27 January (TASR) - A prosecutor from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Presov has brought charges with the Specialised Criminal Court against a student referred to as S. S. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] for last year's knife attack at a grammar school in Spisska Stara Ves (Presov region), which claimed the lives of two women, Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka confirmed on social media on Tuesday. According to the indictment, the knife attacker has been charged with premeditated murder, both completed and attempted, as well as in the stage of preparation. "The case file attached to the indictment consists of ten volumes totalling 3,830 pages and numerous pieces of evidence. The file includes 16 opinions from experts in fields such as toxicology, fingerprinting, biology, tool-mark identification, impression analysis, informatics, health care and pharmacy, psychiatry, and psychology," added Zilinka. The police announced on 30 December 2025 that the investigation into the case had been completed, while a police investigator submitted a proposal to bring charges. The victims of the knife attack that took place on 16 January 2025 were two women aged 18 and 51, a student and the school's deputy headteacher. Another student was injured. The police charged the suspect, at that time an 18-year-old student, with premeditated murder. He is detained in custody by a court's decision. The Prosecutor-General's Office said back in June that it had found several shortcomings in connection with the tragic knife attack. Errors were noted during the transfer of the attacker between schools, and they occurred at both grammar schools that he attended. The Prosecutor-General's Office also detected irregularities in the procedures of labour, social affairs and the family offices. jrg/df
