New York, 24 January (TASR) - Slovakia's Consulate General in New York has hosted the opening of a Brunovsky & Son exhibition, which brought together the work of painter Albin Brunovsky and his son Daniel in one place for the first time. The project was created in cooperation with the +421 Foundation and under the auspices of the Slovak National Gallery. The first ever exhibition of work from Albin Brunovsky's final creative period opened on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of his death. The collection offers a new perspective on his late work in the context of the contemporary painting style of his son, Daniel Brunovsky. "The exhibition shows a generational shift and a conscious departure from his father's artistic language. While Albin Brunovsky is an iconic figure of so-called second surrealism - fantastic realism, Daniel Brunovsky formed his style during the height of post-modernism, with distinctive elements of neo-expressionism and wild painting characterised by an explosion of colours and gestural painting," said exhibition curator Martin Vanco. The exhibition showcased a total of 22 graphic works, mainly lithographs, whose character underscores both the continuity and contrast between the two artists. "I'm extremely pleased that after almost 50 years we can bring Albin Brunovsky's exceptional work to New York, because this is a unique moment not only for Slovak fine art, but also for its international presentation," said Slovakia's Consul General in New York Beatrice Szaboova. "The Brunovsky & Son exhibition confirms the strength of Slovak visual art in a global cultural context and opens up new space for intergenerational artistic dialogue in the United States," added +421 Foundation founder Eva Staronova. am/df/mf
