Bratislava, 23 January (TASR) - Opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party chairman Michal Simecka can see disinterest and disrespect behind Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) remarks on his way to an extraordinary European Council summit, TASR has learnt from Simecka's statement on Friday. "On Thursday (22 January) Robert Fico again showed why Slovakia is becoming increasingly isolated under his leadership, why nobody takes our interests seriously, and why no one cares anymore about what he's saying," stated Simecka, who specifically pointed to the mocking language used by Fico when he called the summit a "super-expensive dinner". Simecka reiterated that the prime minister isn't part of the 'coalition of the willing' at which decisions regarding the future of European security are made, nor did he attend the World Economic Forum in Davos. "And he doesn't even want to attend the one event to which he can and actually must be invited solely on the grounds that he's the prime minister of an EU-member state," added Simecka. On his way to the meeting of the leaders of EU-member countries, which was convened to deal with the threats made by US President Donald Trump in relation to Greenland, Fico criticised the summit, saying that European Council President Antonio Costa organised it to calm down the panic among some member states. He also described the summit as a "super-expensive dinner". jrg/df
