Number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Slovakia Exceeds 3,000

Bratislava, 23 January (TASR) - There were as many as 3,086 public charging points available in Slovakia at the end of last year, allowing drivers to charge their electric vehicles at 1,197 locations in total, the Slovak Electromobility Association (SEVA) reported on Friday, adding that this is an increase of 27 percent year-o-year (y-o-y) in terms of charging points and 24 percent in terms of locations. "An even more significant growth was posted in the total capacity of the infrastructure. Installed capacity reached 201 megawatts (MW), which is some 61 percent more than at the end of 2024 (125 MW)," specified SEVA. Public charging network for electric vehicles thus reached new all-time highs. Given the relatively low number of electric vehicles on Slovak roads, the availability of public charging is among the highest in Europe. "We assess the year 2025 positively. Not only is the number of charging points growing, but above all their capacity. This is crucial for long-distance travel — shorter stops and higher reliability on main routes are key to the comfort of using an electric vehicle," said SEVA director Patrik Krizansky. New chargers have shifted the network towards higher power outputs. Of the total of 3,086 public charging points, standard AC chargers (under 50 kilowatts/kW) accounted for 1,740 (56 percent), fast DC chargers (50+ kW) for 674 (22 percent), and high-power DC chargers (150+ kW) for 530 (17percent). The highest power category recorded the most dynamic growth, with ultra-fast chargers with outputs above 350 kW being already installed at 142 points (5 percent). In terms of network density, Slovakia still ranks among the countries with a relatively low number of battery electric vehicles falling on one public charging point (some six vehicles per point), which is significantly fewer than on developed electric vehicle markets in Western Europe. This gap confirms that Slovakia’s infrastructure is ready for faster growth in the number of electric vehicles, stated the association, which sees a week point in urban and residential charging. ko
