Bratislava, 20 January (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party is initiating MPs' survey at the Interior Ministry due to developments in its public administration section, Samuel Chrtan of PS's media department informed TASR on Tuesday.
According to PS, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) is unable to ensure even the basic functioning of his ministry. The party's MPs want to take a closer look at the spending of money at the ministry, as well as its personnel policy.
"The public administration section is a key and the largest component of the Interior Ministry, but it now has its fifth management following the fiasco with lay-offs at district offices. This has had an extremely adverse impact on the operation of district offices, but also on the management and modernisation of local governments. Sutaj Estok also plans to give the dismissed section director a post in the management of the new Local Government Institute," said MP Jana Hanuliakova (PS).
Her colleague Marek Lackovic also criticised the new Local Government Institute, which has been operating at the ministry since the beginning of the year, as well as the post of government proxy "in which Michal Kalinak hasn't enforced a single law for local governments over the past year". He also mentioned the fact that the ministry "has incomprehensibly dismissed many experts". "All this in order to park party nominees [in lucrative posts] and simulate activity," thinks Lackovic. According to him, setting up a new institute to which employees will be transferred is uneconomical.
