Bratislava, 20 January (TASR) - Slovakia has become a member of the UNESCO High-level Steering Committee (HLSC) for the SDG 4-Education 2030 sustainable development goal, with its mandate lasting until the end of 2027, the Education Ministry's communications department has told TASR, adding that Slovakia will be represented by Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD). "In my view, Slovakia's membership of the UNESCO Steering Committee for Education confirms that the reform measures that we've been implementing in education are in line with international priorities. At the same time, it represents a commitment for us to actively contribute towards ensuring that quality, inclusive and accessible education becomes a reality for all," stated Drucker. As the top coordination and consultation mechanism for education within the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, HLSC's role is to oversee cooperation between governments, international organisations, expert institutions and civil society aimed at accelerating the fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goal SDG 4 – "To ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all". The HLSC is chaired by the UNESCO director-general along with a high-level representative one of the member states. The Leaders Group consists of 28 ministers and heads of international agencies and organisations who cooperate across the HLCS's three functional areas in coordination with the Inter-Agency Secretariat. The HLSC will play a key role in setting the future direction of global education in the years ahead. jrg/df
