Bratislava, 19 January (TASR) - The Interior Ministry will shortly launch a public procurement tender to renew the equipment of forensic laboratories, with the estimated value of the contract to exceed €620,000 excluding VAT, Interior Ministry spokesperson Matej Neumann told TASR on Monday. The reason for renewing the hardware and software equipment of cyber security forensic laboratories across Slovakia is rapid technological development and a significant rise in threats in recent years. The spokesperson said the new equipment will significantly speed up and improve expert examinations in the field of digital forensic analysis, computer crime, phonoscopic analysis and audio recording processing, as well as in detecting and investigating cyber threats and attacks. "Last year, the cyber security department of the Interior Ministry recorded more than 1,600 reported incidents, with the most serious including an attack on the land registry. In 2024, more than 1,800 incidents were reported. Likewise, the computer crime department of the Presidium of the Police Force annually provides cooperation in an average of 250 expert and forensic activities in the investigation of criminal offences," Neumann explained. mf
