Bratislava, 13 January (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava announced on Tuesday that it processed more than 2.4 million passengers in 2025, which is the highest figure seen in its history. The airport posted the previous record back in the pre-pandemic year of 2018, with nearly 2.3 million passengers. Last year the number of passengers increased by 25 percent, or by more than 490,000, when compared to 2024. "For eight consecutive months last year, we recorded all-time monthly highs in passenger numbers thanks to a record increase in new regular routes. As many as 28 were added last year," said airport general director Dusan Novota. "We expect to surpass this record even more significantly in 2026 - to more than 4 million handled passengers," said Novota. In December 2025 alone, the airport processed a record number of 226,000 passengers, almost twice as many as the year before. The total number of flights, both departures and arrivals, exceeded 29,000 in 2025, an increase of 3 percent year-on-year. The volume of air cargo transport reached almost 19,000 tonnes, which was 70 percent more than in 2024. In terms of passenger numbers, the most frequently used regular routes last year were those to Antalya and London, followed by Hurghada, Manchester and Malta. As for charter flights for travel agencies, the most common destinations were also Antalya and Hurghada, as well as Larnaca (Cyprus), Monastir (Tunisia), Marsa Matruh (Egypt) and Salalah (Oman). The biggest milestone of 2025 at Bratislava airport was the opening of a Wizz Air base on 14 November. At the same time, the airline launched a connection between Bratislava and Kosice as of 21 November. From the original two regular routes, Wizz Air expanded the number to 16 last year and will add another 14 in 2026. For the first time in ten years, Ryanair expanded its base at the airport to include a third aircraft, which enabled it to launch 12 new routes. During the summer season, it will operate 33 regular routes from Bratislava. ko/df
