ZSSK: Trains Tens of Minutes Late, Situation Worst in Western Slovakia

Bratislava, 13 January (TASR) - Rail passenger carrier ZSSK has recorded delays on certain trains due to adverse weather conditions on Tuesday, with the situation currently the worst in western Slovakia, as freezing rain is complicating traffic there, ZSSK spokesman Jan Bacek has informed TASR. Trains are tens of minutes late, and some international trains are entering the territory of Slovakia from neighbouring countries with delays of more than 200 minutes, said Bacek. Rail journeys may be temporarily affected by freezing rain and snow in some regions, warned Bacek. According to him, ZSSK is taking operative measures to stabilise transport in response. ZSSK has merged selected trains, with some trains being cancelled or replaced by subsequent ones. It's adjusted the stopping patterns of REX (regional express) trains, which have been stopping like slow trains in some sections in order to ensure that stations are served. Additional (reinforcement) trains have been temporarily cancelled; for example, on the Strba–Strbske Pleso line in the High Tatras, without replacements. The rail company recommends that passengers should check the latest information about their trains on social networks or ZSSK's website before setting out. ko/df
