Bratislava, 12 January (TASR) - Ludovit Stur understood that a nation does not rest solely on its territory, but on spiritual values, education, language and culture, President Peter Pellegrini declared on social media to mark the 170th anniversary of Stur's death. "He recognised the great value education has for Slovakia - that people need to learn, develop their talent and abilities. Let us recall this today also in the context that people are the greatest wealth of our country," the head of state added, noting that Stur's legacy remains relevant also today. Pellegrini called on the public to remember Stur's ideas as a firm value-based legacy. "Let us not forget that culture and the Slovak language belong among the most precious treasures we have," he added. Lauded as one of the most important figures in the Slovak history, Stur was a 19th-century revolutionary, writer, politician, and a leader of the Slovak national revival. mf
