Modra, 11 January (TASR) - The Slovak National Museum (SNM) - Ludovit Stur Museum in Modra (Bratislava region) is preparing a programme to mark the 170th anniversary of Ludovit Stur's death to be held on the third weekend of January (17 and 18 January), thereby concluding the current Year of Ludovit Stur, the municipality of Modra has reported on a social network.
The programme will include a procession commemorating the final farewell to the leading figure of the Slovak National Revival.
"On Saturday, 17 January, the SNM-Ludovit Stur Museum in Modra, along with tourists and the general public, will set off on a guided educational walk to Modra's area of Snaudy. The participants will commemorate the tragic accident and the final days of Ludovit Stur there," the municipality has announced. The programme will continue in the evening with a screening of a feature-length animated documentary with a detective plot, called 'True Stur'.
The funeral procession will take place in the afternoon of Sunday, 18 January. "A stylised procession composed of students, town residents and the general public will gather in the square and head to the cemetery. Just as the procession was magnificent in 1856, so will it be in the ending Year of Ludovit Stur," stressed the organisers.
The Year of Ludovit Stur has been held every ten years since 1985, framed by the date of 12 January, the day on which Stur was killed in a hunting accident.
