Bratislava, 8 January (TASR) - Bratislava is among the 50 most popular destinations for British travellers in 2026, national tourism promotion organisation Slovakia Travel reported on Thursday, referring to a list compiled by Travel and Tour World (TTW), an international company engaged in travel, tourism, aviation and hospitality, based on extensive research, data analysis and reader voting. Bratislava thereby surpassed dozens of European cities, stressed Slovakia Travel, adding that the ranking reflects current and future trends in the field of travel. "The Slovak capital's inclusion among the most popular travel destinations confirms the growing interest among foreign visitors in Slovakia as an attractive and authentic country in the heart of Europe," said Slovakia Travel general director Matej Fekete. "This success is the result of long-term cooperation with tourism partners and systematic promotion of our country on key foreign markets," he added. British travellers are drawn in particular to short flights, authentic cultural experiences and seaside getaways. The list also includes destinations rich in history and culture that offer unique experiences. The Slovak capital is also popular among British travellers thanks to direct flights, as tourists often make their decisions based on the ease of travel to a destination. "We're very pleased about Bratislava's inclusion in this ranking. Our capital city has long been attracting travellers with its increasingly good accessibility, authentic atmosphere, interesting history and modern architecture," said Bratislava Tourist Board (BTB) chair Nina Erneker. She believes that the combination of local charm, world-class gastronomic experiences and a favourable price-quality ratio could push Bratislava even higher up the ranking. Bratislava is affordable for the British, and they also praise the local attractions. "They like to take pictures with the Cumil statue [Bratislava's famous sewer-worker statue], admire the modern and historical architecture, while the views from the iconic UFO restaurant on the SNP Bridge are also a great experience for them. This makes a visit to Bratislava an unforgettable experience for the British," said head of Slovakia Travel's communications department Zuzana Eliasova, adding that people from the UK also appreciate the short distances between individual attractions. ko/df
