SNS: Attack on Venezuela May Create Dangerous Precedent

Bratislava, 3 January (TASR) - The coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) is convinced that, in the 21st century, mutual disputes between countries should only be resolved by peaceful means and dialogue, TASR reported on Saturday based on information provided by SNS in connection with the situation in Venezuela.
SNS hopes that tensions in the region will not escalate and that no precedent will be created, as this would have catastrophic consequences for global security. Also, this approach to resolving disputes is unlike anything seen in modern times, according to SNS.
Even though the junior coalition party takes note of the United States' political explanation for its actions, serious military interventions should be carried out only in line with the United Nations (UN) Charter and based on relevant resolutions, including with the consent of the world community.
"If the world's great powers decide to handle their relations with smaller countries by military force, this creates a dangerous precedent that may escalate tensions and lead to further armed conflicts," according to SNS.
At the same time, SNS called on the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party to refrain from cynical and dismissive comments regarding the events in Venezuela and strongly condemned its statement that "no one will miss [Venezuelan president] Nicolas Maduro".
"Such statements reveal a cynical approach in liberal politics and the application of double standards when assessing international events, including with regard to the conflict in Ukraine," according to SNS.
On Saturday morning, US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela and that its President Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife, were captured and flown out of the country. Trump underlined that this operation was done in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement.
