Bratislava, 10 December (TASR) - Parliament continues the debate on the government's amendment to the Penal Code on Wednesday. Lawmakers decided on Tuesday (9 December) that they will debate the amendment via a fast-tracked legislative procedure. They are currently dealing with the law in its first reading. The debate has been shortened to 12 hours. The amendment was drafted by the Justice Ministry. The three-strikes rule should be reintroduced in the Penal Code for petty theft, with repeat offenders becoming criminally liable in case of repeated thefts. Offenders should be sent to prison for two years after committing a similar offence against property three times within one year. Parliament should deal with opposition proposals to dismiss several ministers and a no-confidence motion in the whole government on Wednesday afternoon. ko
