NDS: D1 Motorway Section with Visnove Tunnel Will Be Opened before Christmas

Bratislava, 9 December (TASR) - The D1 motorway section Lietavska Lucka - Dubna Skala, including the Visnove tunnel near Zilina, will be opened as planned, i.e. on 22 December before Christmas, the National Highway Company (NDS) confirmed on social media on Tuesday, adding that the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place before the tunnel is opened for use. The entire D1 Lietavska Lucka - Dubna Skala stretch is 13.5 kilometres long, with the Visnove tunnel accounting for 7.5 kilometres, making it the longest road tunnel in Slovakia. The motorway section will be part of the D1 connection between Bratislava and Kosice and will relieve the I/18 first-class road around Strecno (Zilina region). On 3 December, firefighters and rescuers performed a simulated accident response in the tunnel as part of a series of tests before the planned opening. jrg
