Bratislava, 6 December (TASR) - Three years after ChatGPT was made available to the public, an initial picture of how artificial intelligence (AI) has settled into the everyday lives of people in Slovakia is emerging, with a new survey by Median SK showing that 42.9 percent of Slovaks have used AI tools at least once, but only 7.2 percent work with them daily.
In the survey, Slovaks are broken down into four groups based on their awareness of AI. In addition to the 42.9 percent group that has already used AI tools, 25.5 percent have heard of AI but aren't sure how it works, while 15.1 percent understand the principle of AI but haven't used it yet. Another 5.8-percent group has never heard of AI tools.
Most of the population would thus fall under the statement "I know it exists, but I haven't tried it yet", which reveals a significant gap between awareness and actual use.
The intensity of usage varies from those who use AI tools daily (7.2 percent), a few times a week (11.1 percent) and once a week (8.3 percent), which means that occasional or experimental use prevails over a stable work habit.
When respondents were asked what they use AI for most often, 32.1 percent said that they use it for obtaining information, 14.7 percent for writing and editing texts, 10.5 percent for entertainment and leisure, and 8.9 percent for creating or editing images and photos.
Ordinary users mostly use AI as a more capable Google search tool and a smarter text editor, while more advanced uses such as for process automation or working with data remain marginal so far.
Commenting on the results, Association AI (ASAI) board member Miroslava Sachova said that "people have discovered the first layer - using AI as an assistant for text, translations and explanation. But the key for Slovakia will be to get two levels deeper - towards productivity, automation and innovations in companies".
The survey also shows which tools dominate, with ChatGPT being the most widespread among Slovaks (28.5 percent), followed by Gemini (11.5 percent) and Copilot (5.1 percent). Tools such as Perplexity or Midjourney, which are mainly used by enthusiasts and niche professions, remain in the low single digits. Paid versions of AI tools are used by 4.9 percent of the population, while another 5.1 percent stick to free solutions but plan to switch to a paid model.
