Bratislava, 4 December (TASR) - Retail revenues in Slovakia in fixed prices increased by 0.6 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in October, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday, adding that higher revenues than a year ago, adjusted for inflation, were seen in the sector for the fourth time since the beginning of the year. Wholesale also saw growth in revenues, up by 4 percent in October. Meanwhile, revenues declined in the sale and repair of motor vehicles (down by 1.2 percent), accommodation (5.5 percent), and pubs and restaurants (1.3 percent). Four out of the nine retail segments saw higher revenues than a year ago. The most significant positive impact came from 11.3-percent growth in revenues of specialised outlets selling other goods. This component has been posting faster real growth since October 2023, with April of this year being the only exception. Within this retail segment revenues grew in particular in other retail outlets selling new goods, as well as drugstores, pharmacies and clothing stores. Revenues of outlets selling PC and IT equipment went up by 4 percent, while those of retail stores selling fuels and sports goods, books and toys increased by almost 1 percent y-o-y. Revenues of hypermarkets and supermarkets, the decisive component of retail trade in terms of share, remained unchanged at last year's level. Conversely, e-shops, including mail-order shops (entities without outlets) posted a y-o-y drop in revenues, down by 7.3 percent in October. Outlets selling household electric appliances (specialised stores selling other household goods) also reported a decrease, of 6.7 percent. Seasonally adjusted, retail revenues went down by 0.7 percent in monthly terms. In the first ten months of 2025, revenues went up in all nine segments of domestic trade but retail, which fell by 0.5 percent. ko/df
