Parliament to Debate Ouster of Transport Minister Raz on 1 December

Bratislava, 25 November (TASR) – House chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) has scheduled the debate on the potential ouster of Transport Minister Jozef Raz (nominee of Smer-SD) for Monday, 1 December, at 10:00. Rasi announced this at a Tuesday press conference of the Voice-SD party. The motion to dismiss Raz was initiated by opposition MPs from the parliamentary caucus 'Slovakia'–For the People, after they collected more than 30 signatures required to convene a special emergency session from all opposition parties. According to the opposition, the main reason for the minister's ouster is a series of railway accidents in recent weeks. Raz offered his resignation to Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), but the Prime Minister did not accept it. MPs from 'Slovakia'–For the People say this gesture is insufficient and argue that the minister should have submitted his resignation directly to President Peter Pellegrini. mf
