Bratislava, 24 November (TASR) - The reduction in the number of jobs at state-owned forestry company Lesy SR is part of rationalisation measures, Laura Tettingerova from the internal and external communications department of Lesy SR said in response to statements made by opposition MP Alojz Hlina (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS). According to her, the layoffs will affect about 280 employees. She also rejected claims that Lesy SR is in a poor economic situation. "Lesy SR is taking necessary rationalisation measures to increase the efficiency of internal processes and ensure the long-term sustainability of the company. These steps include reducing the number of jobs, which will currently affect approximately 280 employees at various management levels," she said. According to her, the decision to reorganise the organisational structure was driven by a combination of several factors, including the gradual return of logging to normal levels after the processing of extensive calamities, the planned zoning of national parks, and the growth of operating costs. "After the reorganisation in 2022, organisational units were merged and their number was reduced by half, but the number of employees didn't decrease. However, current developments have shown the need for further optimisation," she emphasised. Hlina said earlier on Monday that state-owned forestry company Lesy SR is set to undergo mass lay-offs affecting between 300-500 people. He stressed that Lesy SR must be protected because, in his words, it's in grave danger. am
