Bratislava, 22 November (TASR) - Slovak entities had obtained €41.6 million from the Digital Europe Programme by the end of October 2025 for projects in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, digital skills and semi-conductors, the Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Ministry announced earlier this week. According to the ministry, this attests to the fact that Slovakia has sufficient potential to assert itself among Europe-wide competition and to successfully obtain significant financial grants from the EU. "It's up to how clever companies and institutions from each country are when it comes to how much they manage to obtain," stated the ministry. The Digital Europe Programme supports the implementation of new digital technologies in practice, strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy and developing solutions with a global impact. It is attractive to applicants because the process from the call to the signing of the grant agreement is significantly faster when compared to standard EU funds. Slovak universities, research organisations, commercial companies, hospitals and public institutions have already received a total of €41.6 million for 77 supported projects, most of them developed within supranational consortia. In terms of volume, Slovakia has so far managed to draw almost the same amount from the Digital Europe Programme as the Czech Republic (€41.8 million), and significantly more than Hungary (€33 million). Slovakia received the highest amount of money in the area of cyber security, where several strategic activities were supported, including setting up and operating a Cyber-security Competence and Certification Centre and building security operations centres. This was followed by projects for developing digital capacities and interoperability, which supported the activities of digital innovation centres, a safe internet centre and a digital media observatory aimed at combating disinformation. The support was also directed towards developing semi-conductor technologies, including the setting up of the Slovak Semi-conductors Centre, AI projects in the health-care sector and initiatives to develop digital and IT skills. Activities in the field of high-performance computing are also taking off at a more significant rate, including the setting up of a National Supercomputing Centre. Detailed data on drawing funds is available on the interactive Dashboard of the Digital Europe Programme. ko/df
