A higher number of hepatitis cases has appeared in the area after seven years, with the highest number of cases currently occurring in the village of Rakytnik. Hepatitis cases in Rimavska Sobota and Revuca districts have been recorded by health officials since the end of September. The first case appeared in the village of Rakytnik in a child who had been living for a long time in the neighbouring district of Lucenec, where an epidemic of hepatitis has been recorded since spring. RUVZ knows about 15 cases in Rakytnik and two in the village of Sutor. In both villages, the disease occurred in families with low hygiene standards. Hepatitis A is a contagious disease caused by the hepatitis A virus that leads to viral inflammation of the liver. It is primarily transmitted by direct contact.
