Bratislava, 11 November (TASR) - Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) has joined a joint appeal by the European Commission and diplomatic representatives of 17 countries, supported by nine additional states, condemning violations of international humanitarian law in Sudan and expressing deep concern over reports of ongoing violence against the civilian population there, the ministry's communications department told TASR on Tuesday. The statement is a response to the escalation in conflict in the Sudanese regions of North Darfur and Kordofan, as well as reports of systematic violence against civilians following the capture of the city of Al Fasher by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Blanar described the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Sudan as extremely serious. "Attacks on innocent people and the blocking of humanitarian aid are an unprecedented violation of international humanitarian law and are totally unacceptable. We call on all parties to end the violence, respect international law and ensure that humanitarian organisations have access to provide vital aid to innocent civilians," emphasised Slovakia's chief diplomat. am/df
