Kalinak: Slovakia Will Try to Present Its Model for Drone Wall at EU Summit

Bratislava, 1 October (TASR) – Slovakia wants to present its own model for a drone wall on NATO's eastern flank at Wednesday's informal European Union (EU) summit in Copenhagen, Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) stated following the government meeting on Wednesday. Kalinak has no doubt that, like the situation in Ukraine, the issue of financing a possible drone wall will also be discussed. He pointed out that, in terms of financing its construction, it appears that some countries, despite increased defence spending, will not have sufficient funds to build such a drone wall. "Therefore, other solutions are being sought in terms of finding funds and involving the European Union. At the summit, Slovakia will try to present its own model, which could be significantly cheaper than some expensive technologies, which could make it interesting," said the minister. "We're focusing on the actual elimination of drone threats," he added. Concerning the question of further financial support for Ukraine and Slovakia's position to this issue, he referred to Premier Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) power to comment on this topic. Fico is set to travel to Copenhagen on Wednesday for an informal EU summit. He will also attend a meeting of the European Political Community. EU leaders will meet in Copenhagen on Wednesday to discuss strengthening common European defence and support for Ukraine. Denmark has held the EU presidency since July. am/mcs
