Slovak Actor and Entertainer Oldo Hlavacek Dies Aged 91

Bratislava, 17 August (TASR) - Slovak actor, entertainer, screenwriter, musician and presenter Oldo Hlavacek died at the age of 91 on Sunday, his son Ivo Hlavacek has confirmed for TASR.
He died in the early morning hours after a long illness in one of the Bratislava hospitals.
Hlavacek was born on 26 January 1934 in Bratislava. He graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He became a member of the Slovak National Theatre's (SND) Drama Stage in 1963. He performed in the plays like The Karamazov Brothers, The Beetle in the Head, The Servant of Two Masters, The Woman's Law, An Attempt at Flying, and many others.
He made us of his comedy talent chiefly on radio and television. He appeared in a plenty of entertainment programmes, including New Year's Eve ones. However, Hlavacek's popularity skyrocketed in the 1970s with the television competition called "The Funniest One Wins", with famous actors telling jokes and their success being measured by an 'applause meter'.
He made his film debut in 1966 in the movie called "Tango for a Bear". Viewers could also see him in the film drama "Tomorrow Will Be Late" (1972), the comedy "Hippopotamus" (1973). He also appeared in TV series, such as "Secret Lives" (2015) and "Zoo" (2016).
In 2004 then president Rudolf Schuster awarded him the Cross of the President of the Slovak Republic, Second Class for his extraordinary merits for the development of theatre, radio and film production.
